And so forth.Īgain, the only difference between generic MIDI and GeneralMIDI is that in GMidi the patch numbers are standardized to the instrument name (not sound) that they are supposed to represent. Patch 28 (Clean Electric Guitar) will probably sound much better on the Kurzweil than on the Casio. However, Patch number 1 (grand piano) will sound much better on the Kurzweil than it will on the Casio. on all GMidi synths the acoustic bass patch is 33, steel drums 115 and all the patch numbers have the same name from synth to synth. On my non-GMIDI VL70m, patch number one is a Getz-ish sax sound. on all Gmidi synths, patch number 1 is a piano. The only difference between MIDI and GeneralMIDI is there are standardized patch numbers in GMidi. The same fingers can go from a Casio synth to a Kurzweil and the difference will be like night and day.Īnd GeneralMIDI does not suck either. MIDI is just like invisible magic fingers pressing down the black-and-white keys of a synthesizer. MIDI Does not have any sound at all - The MIDI stream simply plays the sounds that are already in your synthesizer! But it doesn't have all the BiaB features. All Real Band does is combine a sequencer with BiaB. If you have a MIDI sequencer, go with Band-in-a-Box. It may not be the best in the world, but I think the backing track sounds pretty reasonable considering that it was a midi.Īnd here's a recording of "Bernie's Tune".also created the same way. That's a recording I made of one of my own compositions using Band-in-a-Box with Roland VSC to help create the backing track. If you want to hear an example of how a Band-in-the-Box backing track can sound using the Roland VSC soundset, listen to this. If you limit yourself to the standard midi playback device built in to most sound cards.then yes.midi will sound more like a windup jack-in-the-box. When you start throwing in brass or strings the results are less realistic, but you CAN come up with a really decent sounding rhythm section if you choose the right instruments. If you use Roland VSC or some other upscale soundset as the midi playback device, it can sound pretty darn real.especially if you're using just piano, bass, drums, vibes, etc. It's the midi playback device on your computer that makes it sound either good or bad.
